One of the biggest challenges for new Wikipedia editors is deciding what to edit. After attending a workshop or making your first few edits, you may find yourself asking: “Which articles need improvement, and where can I contribute?”

SuggestBot can help with that.

What is SuggestBot?

SuggestBot is an automated Wikipedia bot that recommends articles needing improvement. It analyses your past edits and matches you with articles that align with your areas of interest.

How Does It Work?

Once set up, it posts personalised article suggestions directly to your Wikipedia user talk page on a regular basis.

How to Request SuggestBot

Step 1: Log in to Wikipedia

Go to en.wikipedia.org and click Log in at the top right of the page. Enter your username and password and click on Log in.

Step 2: Go to your user talk page

To find your user talk page, look at the very top-right menu bar of your Wikipedia page.

• Click your username to access your user page.

• Once your user page opens, click the Talk tab at top of the page.

• Click Create source / Edit source tab at the top of the Talk page.

Step 3: There are two sets of SuggestBot options you can choose from:

Option 1: Get Suggestions Based on Your Editing History

If you have already made edits on Wikipedia, this is the easiest option.

• Navigate and copy and paste this code below in the exact spot in the Edit source Text Box as you want it to appear on your user talk page:

• Click on publish changes to save the page.

• Wait about 15 – 30 minutes.
• SuggestBot will analyze your recent edits, post article suggestions, and automatically remove the template so you only receive suggestions once.

Option 2: Get Suggestions Based on Specific Topics

If you want suggestions related to particular topics, you can tell SuggestBot which topics interest you.

• Navigate and copy and paste this code below in the exact spot in the Edit source Text Box as you want it to appear on your user talk page:

However, add page names separated by | for the topics you want.

For Example:

{{User:SuggestBot/suggest|World War I|World War II}}

If you want topics related to World War I/World War II.

• Click on publish changes to save the page and wait for SuggestBot to process it.

• For better results, you can use categories instead of individual pages. For Example:

{{User:SuggestBot/suggest|Category:World War I|Category:World War II}}

Step 4: SuggestBot will then post article recommendations directly to your talk page
